Toddler 1 Newsletter

 Dear Parents,

The children have been in school for two weeks, and they are working hard at separating from parents and home, and learning to trust and relate to their teachers and new friends.  While a few of the children have had little or no trouble with this new experience, others have found it quite difficult.  This is not at all unusual, especially for two year olds, and things will, no doubt, get better.

Please bear with us during this time of transition.  Children who are upset and crying need one-on-one attention, and we may not always greet each child immediately upon their arrival in the classroom.  We will keep an eye on the door, and will welcome newly arrived children at the first possible opportunity.

Although the weather hasn’t always been cooperative, we have tried to spend time outside every day.  On the playground, the children have many opportunities to work on social and gross motor skills.  The time outside also helps them to enjoy the morning, which may be a much longer period of active time than many of them are used to.

In addition to leaving the classroom to go outside, the children have had opportunities to go to the science room and the sensory art room.  All of them seem to enjoy these experiences, as well as getting to know Sarah and Beryl, who teach those classes.

We have just a few things to mention with regard to routines, etc.  When you drop off, please remember to bring your child into the room to wash their hands and put their bags in their cubbies.  This routine helps them to begin the day with a positive outlook.  With regard to clothes, diapers, etc., we will try to remember to send notes home if we need replacements; however, if at pickup you notice that your little one has changed clothes, we will, need another outfit for their box.  Also, when the weather begins to get cool, please bring the appropriate clothing for their boxes.

We have family pictures for almost everyone, but if you haven’t provided one, please do so as soon as possible.  These photos also play an important role in the transition and separation process.

This coming week the children will start the regular schedule of 8:00 to noon.  There will be no school on Thursday, in observance of Rosh Hashana.  For those of you who may be celebrating, we wish you a Happy New Year!

                                                                           Love,

                                                            Norene, Diane and Clarissa
