Nursery 2 Newsletter

We welcomed Lila Govindan to our Nursery 2 class this week.  We are glad to have another girl join our group and help challenge and strengthen our social skills.  The children have grown familiar with us and other teachers who enter our room, demonstrating skills that we routinely assess. They now understand the routines and rules, occasionally challenging them and us.  Their behavior may depend on their classmates’ behavior, how much sleep or food they have had, if they have siblings, and numerous other factors.  As the dynamic changes, relationships transform, friendships and comfort level grows, we continue to guide them in making decisions that are beneficial!

As we move into the winter months our self-help skills become challenged with dressing in outdoor weather gear.  Practicing putting on boots, snow boots, coats, mittens, hats, and snow pants can get quite difficult and we learn sequencing when we learn to put on our clothes in the best order.  The children learn to dress quickly if they want to go out and play, or stay back and go out a little later, not making the children suffer and sweat.

The children have formed a more cohesive group and allow us to see their strengths and weaknesses.  We continue to encourage greater participation in all our activities and as we have begun reading Fairy Tales we will utilize their dramatic skills.  Scenery is created, props are used and a variety of roles are acted out.  We read various versions of the stories citing similarities and differences, use finger puppets, flannel boards, plastic characters, and magnetic boards.  The children who are the least verbal sometimes surprise us with the loudest voices!  Nursery 2 is excited for all our upcoming challenges.
