NEWS FROM CONNECTING PM

Dear Parents,

We began the week by reading THE B BOOK to the class and discussing the many B words that they children know. B words were available in the writer center for children to copy into their journals. In the art center, the children made collages out of brown, black & blue items such as buttons and beans. Blue goop was also available.

We read SWIMMING LESSONS WITH STEWIE THE DUCK about water safety for children. There were rubber ducks in the water table. We played DUCK DUCK GOOSE on a rainy Tuesday. And we sang 5 Little Ducks while reading a book of the same title. Here is what the children had to say about swimming safety:

Gigi: “They blew bubbles.”
Gemma: “They kicked on their back.”
Christian: “You have to stay with a grown-up because if you don’t stay with a grown-up, you could sink and drown and even die.”
Nicole: “Never go in the water in the river. Don’t go too far away.”
Hailey: “Always when you’re in the water and you don’t have swimmies, use kicking feet or a kicking board.”
Jordi: “He said blowing bubbles was baby stuff.”
Maddy: “I remember that Stewie blowed bubbles under water. You go on your back when you get tired of swimming.”
Emma: “I was swimming and I put on a floatie but when I’m older I’m going to take swimming lessons. Never ever go in the water without a life vest.”
Chase: “You can’t dive in by yourself.”
Hudson: “Don’t go in the water without Mom or Dad or your babysitter.”
Christian: “or your Grandma.”
Connor: “When you’re about to drown, paddle your feet and turn on your back.”
Kailey: “Whoever blows the biggest bubbles gets to wear the swimming medal.”
Grace: “I used to swim with my life jacket on but now I don’t. And I’m very excited to swim.”

Children made individual beach collages and a cooperative beach mural on our bulletin board after listening to OUT OF THE OCEAN. The mural consists of drawings by the children and sponge painted fish. Please check it out.
The children also enjoyed listening to SWIMMY and WHO’S IN THE OCEAN?

Thanks so much to Caitlin Niv for hosting our year-end class party and ceremony of leaving on Tuesday at noon. Marianne will arrive at 12:45 to distribute certificates to the children after their little performance, so please be on time so the children can have lunch first. See you there!

Love,
